Am I too old for pink extensions in my hair?
For those of you who don't know me outside of Cyberland, I have a history of... uh... unique hair. I spent college and the first half of my professional life experimenting from bleach blond (not a highlight) to bright blue (really fun) to blond with pink tips (love it, but it didn't photograph well) to jet black (very goth). And just about every hue in between in every configuration you can imagine. I loved it. But, then I got a job at a national staffing firm, and well... professionalism was required. I hate that. And after, I thought that since I was a mom... I better look the part. Well, call it a midlife crisis (if that happens at 30... God help me at 40 or 50), or just a desire to mix things up, but for my birthday I have booked an appointment with Cari of Rumors Salon to get an all over dark brown color and another appointment to add hot pink extensions. They won't elongate my hair, because I can't afford that (although I would LOVE to do it, Cari, if you ever read this and want to give me a discount to advertise on my blog... hint hint). But, it will thicken it and most importantly, add some serious hot pink. LOVE IT. But, alas, Homa said that pink hair isn't cute and seems to think that its a poor choice. So, I pose it to you, my loyal friends and confidants. Are you with me or against me? A Homa or a Lynn? Bring it on. I can take it.
Is there such a thing as being too old for pink hair?

Hmmm...I'm not sure. I have a desire to dye my hair close to black with blue highlights...but doubt it's work appropriate (or that I would actually do it even if that wasn't a problem). You, how ever, don't have an office to go to and can do what ever you want. You don't look thirty, or almost thirty...so I don't think the age is a problem. I'm sort of on the fence too...I say if you want it go do it...but I do think that if you're out with the fam you will get some looks that it isn't the appropriate "mom" look...which leads me back to my first thought. That was helpful, I'm sure.
I am now a firm believer that there is an age limit on pink hair (all non normal hues actually.) Partially this is because I watch Rock of Love charm school. There is some hedious pink hair on there. I have seen cute pink hair, but truly think the vibrant hues look better on someone younger. Is 30 too old... it's hard to say. About 6 months after turning 30 I wanted green or aqua hair. I also wanted to pierce my nose. I did neither, I don't really regret it. But, then and now I work in a field were I must look professional. I have dyed my hair every natural shade and some not quite natural. But I have never ventured into the vibrant colors. If you decide to go with the extensions be sure to post pictures.
I think you will get some looks that is for sure. I think when people see teenagers experimenting people think -oh a rebelious stage- at 30 maybe they think - she's a got a screw loose to want to stand out sooo much- personally, i think if it makes you feel good and makes you feel yourself- go for it, hair is just hair and you can change it. I loved doing crazy hair in high school and having rainbow bangs and all sorts. i say go for it. have some fun!
30 is so not too old for pink hair especially if you can rock it!
Just because you are a mom doesn't mean you can't be fashion forward. It doesn't mean you can't express yourself.

Ummm....just because you can do it doesn't mean you should do it. So I guess I am a Homa.
All good points, Tex's of course if my fav, since she said exactly what I wanted to hear. I love it when that happens! But, all those cautioning what others will think when I am with my fam make a good point, too. I don't want people looking at me going "that freak ought not to procreate." So, jury's still out, but the appointments are scheduled... so we'll see.
My very conservative husband unequivocally says "Yes". However, I think it would be cool. I would look horrid but you can totally pull it off. You are only too old for it if you are embarrassed to share it!
And as I keep saying, you are only as old as you feel. I'm a couple years younger but I find a lot of people my age saying "I'm old"...and I always remind them that I'm the same age as them and I'm NOT old. 30 is just getting started really.
Totally go for it. That's the beauty of hair. Especially hair color. If you don't like it then you change it. If you love it you took a chance and did it. You've never been one to shy away from a risk. As long as its more traditional colored then all pink I don't think the looks will be that bad. :) Of course I am in Seattle with a ton of freaks!! haha
Jess - Larry should be used to my weird hair. I believe it was either jet black with a hint of blue or blond with pink tips when he was hired at PEN. Subtle pink should be nothing in comparison. And nice coming from someone not yet 30 to say that 30 is just the beginning. I used to say that, too. Now I know its gray hair and saggy boobs... the beginning of the end.
Tara - Maybe I should move to Seattle. I would fit right in. I am leaning toward the yes column, so be ready for pink hair at Christmas.
Another yes here,I think it will be fun:) Besides, it's just hair. It's not like you're getting a tattoo on your forehead!
Lori - I agree... I only do permanent things on my shoulder. That's much better.
