God Bless Suburbia

Sung to the tune of God Bless America by Irving Berlin (with lyrics completely obliterated by me, of course. Sorry, Irv).

God bless Suburbia,
Subdivision where I live,
With my minivan, and my pooches
and my 2.5 required kids!

From our strip malls, to the Targets
To the soccer fields, overrun
God Bless Suburbia,
The home of clones.
God bless suburbia,
The home of clones.

With our uniforms, from The Gap
And our hair in perfect bobs
God Bless Suburbia,
The home of clones.
God bless suburbia,
The home of clones.

Where Oprah, is our leader
And Gail King, our new VP
God Bless Suburbia,
The home of clones.
God bless suburbia,
The home of clones.

With our houses, all in a row
its so hard to, find your own
God Bless Suburbia,
The home of clones.
God bless suburbia,
The home of clones.

I lived for 10 years in Mason, Ohio. The suburbia of all suburbias. And all the things you mention got to me, it wore on me, having eyes around all the time... Questions, opinions, and impositions. Just another "clone" like the next.

I must admit, after leaving a year and a half ago, that many of the things I so despised, I now miss! After moving to rural New England the grocery is a fifteen minute drive, Dunkin Donuts the only chain fast food, and sunday school is home schooled because there are not enough children to teach during mass, and can you believe the closest target is 50 minutes away.... the HORROR!

As much as I love the simplicity of life in a small new england town, not a day goes by that I don't daydream about moving back to suburban cincinnati! I am a living example of 'the grass is always greener.'

Don't move to the country where a Hannah Montana song can strike fear into your heart!

She - That is true. I guess some things make the cloning worth while, and a CVS, Walgreens, fast food and Target all within a two minute drive is worth it.

Bern - I guess I have to go country then. No... its not worth it.

Mama Bird - Oops. Wasn't expecting you to read it. Really, uh... its not like that at all. Its opposite day.... yeah that its. Opposite Day.

Suz - Does it show that I don't watch Oprah since I spelled Gayle's name wrong??? I'll be kicked out of the burbs for sure.

Mark - You married quite the talented one.

Laura - Good point. Country is out for sure.

Jo - As long as they don't tell me to tell Tabbi to touch herself, I guess I can handle it.

Braja - Awww... what a compliment!
